The Punch List: Columbus' South Side is changing. Here's what's next for the neighborhood.

Columbus' South Side is a rapidly changing neighborhood, exemplified by new housing and new entertainment options headed to the area.

The apartments will rise on a nearly 8-acre site almost directly across South High Street from The Fort, where a major mixed-use development is now planned. Fortner Upholstery owner Justin McAllister and Buggyworks developer Kyle Katz have proposed 1,000 apartments and 400,000 square feet of commercial space in what they're calling Steelton Village.

City Winery and Honest Friend Brewery are both working on their commercial spaces in that development now.

Site work will start next year and the project could be open in 2025.

John Mally, a broker at NAI Ohio Equities who deals a lot on the South Side, said he hopes more business will pay attention to the area. He said there is also more opportunities for housing, retail and other commercial uses nearby the high-profile projects.
