What do you make/do at The Smithery?

We design and handcraft one-of-a-kind and limited edition jewelry from recycled precious metals and natural gemstones, along with bespoke wedding and commitment rings.

The Smithery jewelry is a true collaboration between two best friends who decided to join our independent jewelry businesses eight years ago. We each bring a unique design perspective and set of hand skills in creating each piece.

We've been offering a private Make Your Own Wedding Band Workshop since 2015 and are excited to continue it at our studio here at The Fort. It's a unique experience where we spend the day with a couple, walking them through the steps to create their own bands.

What’s your favorite jewelry creation so far—and why?

One of our favorite things about jewelry as an art form, is the sentiment behind it. Working with couples on commitment rings, hearing their stories, and getting to be a small part of their story is very rewarding—it is a huge honor when they put their trust in us to make their rings.

One of our goals as metalsmiths is to honor the tradition of the craft while keeping sustainability at the forefront. We love the process of creating each piece completely with hand tools. There is an intentionality and magic in watching a piece transform in your hands.

You are pioneers in The Fort’s biggest development phase to date, building a custom studio. Why did you choose us?

We had heard about The Fort several years ago when Eric Rausch was building the Kiln Room. It sounded like the vision for The Fort had so much potential to make a big impact in the creative culture of this city. When the stars aligned and we found an opportunity to be a part of it, we knew it was the right fit for us!

We are really excited to find a place where we can focus on designing and making amongst so many other talented creatives here in Columbus. Already we have found many connections and potential collaborations in the short time we have been here.

Justin, John, and Allegra have been so great to work with in hearing our needs and planning the build out of our space. We are really impressed by the attention and care that is going into revitalizing such a historical landmark in Columbus. We are excited to be able to witness the transformation!

We feel so at home here, everyone has been so welcoming! We have a renewed sense of inspiration and can't wait to get to work and see what happens next!

How can folks find you—and buy your creations?
